Throughout the school year the art projects focus on the National Visual Arts' standards as well as the elements of art and the principles of design. The students observe how famous artists use the elements and principles in their artwork and create their own interpretations. Kindergarten through grade five are studying Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers, Starry Night, and Bedroom at Arles. Fifth graders have been studying Pablo Picasso's cubism style and creating a portrait. Third and sixth graders are making painted collages in the manner of Eric Carle. Fourth graders are learning about Piet Mondrian's use of lines and primary colors. Seventh and Eighth graders are making pastel flowers inspired by Georgia O'Keefe. Eighth graders are making their own interpretations of Grant Wood's American Gothic. The students continue to do amazing artwork, and I am very proud to be their Art teacher.
